The International Science Olympiad strives to identify raw talent among students in their earliest years. It provides students with the opportunity to compete against the best on a global scale.

The exam is designed to assess students’ knowledge of the subject not just theoretically but also practically. The main aim of the exam is to test the scientific temperament of each student as they tackle problems of increasing difficulty that challenge their knowledge at every step and force them to think beyond their textbook knowledge. Each question is intended to assess each student’s inherent knowledge.

Test Format

Einstein, Newton, Darwin, Faraday, Edison & Franklin (Grade- 1 to 12):

• The exam duration is 90 minutes.
• The first-round perfect scorer will appear in the Final round of competition.
• In the final round of competition, the first-round perfect scorer will compete. Students who score higher than 95% in the final round will receive a Perfect Score Award, a Gold Medal, and $100 in cash.
• For students in grades 1 to 4, there are 24 questions in total, with 8 questions per section with five options for each question.
• For students in grades 5 to 12, there are 30 questions in total, with 10 questions per section with five options for each question.
• Einstein -1 and Einstein -2 students will take the same test paper but will be ranked separately. Same applies for Newton -1 & 2; Darwin-1 & 2; Faraday – 1&2; Edison -1 & 2 and Franklin-1 & 2.
• There are three levels of increasing difficulty in each of the three categories.
• One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer; there will be no penalty for skipping a question.
• Based on the level of difficulty, the following points are awarded:

Section-A (Easy): 3 points for each correct answer.

Section-B (Medium): 4 points for each correct answer.

Section-C (Hard): 5 points for each correct answer.

Note: – During the exam, pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, and other geometrical instruments are allowed. Instruments or gadgets like calculators, smart watches, etc. are strictly prohibited.

Awards

• Gold medals will be awarded to students securing >= 95%; silver medals will be awarded to those in the 90-94% range, and 80-89 % scorers would fetch Bronze medals. All medalists will be presented with merit certificates. Others will receive a participation /appreciation certificate.
• Only an e-certificate will be given for appreciation and participation.
• In the final round of competition, the first-round perfect scorer will compete. Students who score higher than 95% in the final round will receive a Perfect Score Award, a Gold Medal, and $100 in cash.
